I remember always being told to watch the other stylists and pick up on what they were doing. For me, it was the worst advice I could be given, I would watch but never grasp why they were doing certain things they were doing or even if it was the right thing to do. For example; Nobody ever explained why they would take sections as they were cutting and if you asked you just got told ”because you have to.”
The way I teach, you can ask me any question about any part of the cut and I will give you the answer. In fact, everyone that works at Launceston Barbers can give you the right answer because we don’t do things we don’t understand. Understanding why we take sections in a certain way and using the specific techniques we do is the key to getting the cut perfect.
Ongoing practice to further perfect your skills can be done after the course as most of my training is about understanding the science behind a haircut.
